June 28, 2007 - We've had a blast
the past few days with Jason's cousin McKenzie. She's been helping tend to Cale (who turns 7 weeks this Sunday and is now 11.5
pounds, 23 inches) and playing pickup basketball with the UA women's team.
Other than that, we've just been changing lots of diapers and taking lots
of naps. Pretty soon we'll actually have to start working again (but not
yet!). See the pics:
(the 'old man' in
this pic is Jason!)
June 19, 2007 - Success! We made
it to and from Montana without any significant troubles - and we had a
fabulous time. There were plenty of firsts for Cale:
his first flight (he was perfect), his first time away from home, his first
time to meet lots of relatives (including a great grandmother), and his
first wedding (and what a wonderful wedding it was!) Tricia and Jason also
manage to find time to go horseback-riding and play basketball. If only
there had been more time! The place we stayed, Mission
Creek Bed and Breakfast, offered a little of everything -
including breathtaking views (see pics).
(notice the
spit-up?)
June 14, 2007 - It's been a big
week for us. Cale celebrated his 4-week birthday
on Sunday and his 1-month birthday on Wednesday. Also, Jason and Trish
celebrate their 2nd wedding anniversary on Monday. And, this afternoon the
whole family is going on our firstvacation (to Montana). We'll be sure to add more pics
when (if?) things slow down. Otherwise, things are well. Trish is perfectly
healthy, as is Cale, and we're all slowly finding
a routine. Cale is growing fast - getting
heavier, longer, and stronger every week. Trish is 'momming'
like a pro. And, Jason is diapering like a semi-pro (still learning some of
the nuances!).
June 5, 2007 - Cale just passed his 3 week birthday and he's growing
so fast! He now has as many double chins as his daddy does (fyi, that's 1). We feel blessed to have had our
families with us to share all of Cale's first
moments. Jason's mom and sisters and Tricia's parents all managed to find
time to visit over the past 3 weeks (see pics
below). They mostly saw him eat, sleep, and poop (in that order). But, we
all agree that he does those things well and is just about the most perfect
baby boy :-). We're going to take a deep breath for the next 10 days or so
and then we're off on our first family vacation. We're headed to beautiful
Montana to attend Jason's cousin's wedding and see Jason's dad's family.
We'll be sure to take lots of pics.

May 27, 2007 - Cale and Trish are well. Cale
is growing every day, we think he's gained a pound so far and today was his
2-week birthday - no cake or candles or presents. Below is a copy of Cale birth announcement - made by our friend Colleen
(we made 3 differentones so not
everyone received this one).
Jason spent the
afternoon with Trish's dad Gerry at the SEC baseball tournament
championship game outside Birmingham. Arkansas lost to Vanderbilt 4 - 7
(see pic).

May 23, 2007 - Jason's sister Jocelyn
is here visiting and Tricia's mom arrives later this evening. They can help
us decide whether Cale's baby pics
look more like Trish's or Jason's. What do you think?
Also, Jason spent
the morning at the SEC baseball tournament watching Arkansas versus
Alabama. Arkansas won 6 - 0 on a complete game 2-hitter by Nick Schmidt.

video of Caleb (no sound).
May 20, 2007 - Cale is 1 week old today and so far he's perfect,
eating and sleeping regularly and only crying when Jason changes his
diaper. Trish is doing exceptionally well, her recovery has been fast and
(relatively) painless. Grandma Becky (Scoma) was
here all week, aunt Jocey is visiting tomorrow,
and grandma Jane and grandpa arrive later this week. Cale
makes his first big trip next month to attend Jason's cousin Devlin's
wedding in Montana. We're constantly adding new pictures, just click the
link that says 'Caleb'. Here's one of mommy and Cale
catching up on sleep:
May 17, 2007 - Today was Jason's
32nd birthday. His son, wife, and mom were all there to celebrate. The day
included a (brief) trip to Ruby Tuesday's, the Razorbacks mobile for Cale, and a Caleb hibiscus.See the pics:
May 15, 2007 - Caleb was born on Sunday, May 13. He was 7
pounds and 10 ounces, 20 1/2 inches long, and so far has a big appetite and
a perfect disposition. We went into the hospital on Friday night with
regular (but mild) contractions, went home Saturday noon when things slowed
down, and returned Saturday night when things picked up again. All totaled,
Trish was in labor for 35 hours and pushed for 25 minutes. Cale was born at 8:09 AM on Mother's Day. Cale was 4 days early but his Mother's Day arrival was
a pleasant surprise. The local Fox affiliate in Birmingham actually ran a
TV news story on Caleb and Tricia during the Sunday evening newscast. Trish
said "he's the best Mother's Day gift anyone could ever get." We
spent the rest of the day mostly staring at his face, then touching his
body, then looking at each other, then staring at his face, and so on; pure
amazement. Trish is recovering magnificently well, in fact this evening we
went for a walk and she felt great. His first visitor was Jason's mom
(we're still trying to find the right grandmother name - Sco-Mama, Omi-Becky, Gee-Bee . . . ) who arrived Sunday
night and will stay for a week or so to help with the transition to
parenthood. Trish's parents will be here to help next week. Emma and Ellie
are adjusting to new sights, smells, and sounds. See the pics of our perfect baby:
May 4, 2007 - 13 days!! We
cannot believe that we're about to be parents - WOW. Mommy-to-be is really
starting to slow down, more aches + less energy, but overjoyed about being
a mom. She's ready for him to arrive, now. Daddy-to-be is not, quite. He's
fretting over all sorts of unfinished things (work, house, car, etc.). It's
funny actually: if baby boy is like his mom, then he'll be early and, if
he's like his dad, then he'll be late. Either way though, one of us will be
perfectly ready and the other will be frantically adjusting. Here's a
recent pic of Mommy-to-be showing exactly why
she's ready . . . .
Daddy-to-be has been assigned to diaper
duty. Here's the sneak peak at the first victim . . .
April 22, 2007 - Friends at
Jason's work hosted a baby shower for us today. It was perfect: good
people, good weather, and good food (see pic).
PS - We're now
officially counting down days instead of weeks - 25 days as of today!
Also, Tricia spent
Saturday shopping and Jason spent it with 92,000+ Alabama
fans at A-Day (the Alabama
football spring scrimmage). Yes, that's 92 thousand who came out to attend
a inter-squad scrimmage (see pic). It was the
largest college football crowd to ever attend a practice; the stadium was
full. And all the excitement is about new Tide head coach Nick Saban.
April 9, 2007 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Today Trish turned 31. We had a nice evening together: dressed up, took
pictures (see below), went to dinner, gave gifts, etc.
There are lots more
birthdays coming up: Jason's sister Jen (April 11), Trish's sister Jill
(April 18), Jason's mom (April 25) and then, soon after, Mr. Baby Boy!
April 8, 2007 - HAPPY EASTER! We
enjoyed a nice Easter service this morning at Canterbury (see pic) and are relaxing and waiting for dinner to finish
(send your prayers, Jason is trying to make lamb). We spent yesterday in a birthing
class (we're less than 6 weeks from the due date) and Friday night getting
the house ready for the baby. We think we've settled on his name, it's
definitely down to 2 and, of those, one seems to feel more natural than the
other.
Trish has been
spending most of the past few weeks at home, nesting. Jason spent last
weekend in Boston
doing work stuff and visiting colleges (BC, MIT, and Harvard are now off
the list) - he even managed to catch a BC/NC State baseball game.
March 27, 2007 - We hit the 33
week mark in 2 days meaning nearly 7 weeks to go. We can't wait!
Mommy-to-be is doing well, but certainly starting to feel the aches, pains,
and exhaustion of carrying the little baby boy around (or as our nephew
calls him, Diego Bond). Most of our time is filled with work and baby (see pic), including names (we considered Judas but no one
seemed to like the idea, even though Jude would be a good nickname and
without Judas, well, our world would be quite different; Diego is currently
running 3rd). Jason and Tricia both had their spring breaks over the past 2
weeks and Jason is getting ready to spend the weekend in Boston (for work stuff and to visit some
college campuses: BC, MIT, Harvard).
March 12, 2007 - Tricia had her
2nd baby shower this past Saturday hosted by our neighbor Christy. Everyone
had a terrific time including Tricia's parents who were in from Maryland and
Jason's mom and grams who were in from Michigan. Our baby-to-be now has all the
stuff it needs . . . and plenty of stuff it doesn't. We had some extra time
on Saturday morning so we all visited Moss Rock (with Emma) and on Sunday
we watched the Razorbacks fall short in the SEC basketball title game.
Enjoy the pics.
In other news,
Mom-to-be is doing well, still expanding, and due in 2 months and
baby-to-be is approximately 12 inches long and 3 pounds.

March 3, 2007 - Not much to report
over the past few weeks. Baby is still fast approaching and Trish and Jason
are looking forward to visitors next weekend. Jason's mom and grams and
Trish's mom and dad are arriving on Friday for a Saturday baby shower.
On a sad note,
Jason's mom's dog Heart died today. He turned 15 on February 14 (he was
named Heart because he was born on Valentine's Day). I'll always remember
Heart sitting in mom's big bay window and barking at kids as they walked
home from school. Here's a pic of Heart from
earlier today.
February 18, 2006 - Happy belated
Valentine's Day! Trish and Jason spent the evening together and cooked a
pot roast (in a crock pot no less) and had their annual Valentine's
chocolates. This weekend Trish was in Michigan with Jason's family for a baby
shower - organized by Jason's mom and hosted by his aunt - and had a
wonderful, wonderful time!! Onesies were
decorated, Edelweiss was sung, a library was started, baby names were
suggested, and pictures were taken (see below). There could not have been
more fun (thanks everyone!). And, it was perfect timing, with only 1
trimester remaining these things will soon be needed.
February 6, 2007 - Nothing exciting to
report. The semester is in mid-swing. Trish's pregnancy is running
smoothly. Jason has had a couple of papers accepted to journals. Emma and
Ellie sleep a lot. Baby boy is growing fast (and moving a lot!). We've
settled on a couple of names (Caleb, Calvin, or Jacob). Trish is headed to Michigan next
weekend for a baby shower. If you're thinking of gifts, Jason likes Arkansas, Alabama,
or Michigan
baby clothes/toys - like this . . . :-)
January 20, 2007 - So, the new crib
we told you about was returned and now we have a new, new crib (or as Trish
calls it a 'co-sleeper' or as I call it a 'not-yet-needed-thing-taking-up-space-in-our-bedroom).
It's right next to the bed (see pic below). We
also have 2 new rockers (see pic below) and the
base of a stroller. Anyway, Trish's belly is still growing and she's due in
less than 4 months!
January 13, 2007 - Hi everyone!
We're back at school now. Tricia is team-teaching an interim course with
one of her colleagues and will start the Spring semester in a few weeks.
Jason's Spring semester started bright and early this past week with an
8:00 AM course. Below are recent pics of Tricia's
belly (only 4 months before the big arrival!) and the first crib; Tricia
put it together this afternoon!
January 1, 2007 - Happy New Year!
Here's a pic from last night of our Christmas +
New Years celebration.
